Is the Government rebate for Solar still available?

Yes, STCs (Small-scale technology certificates) are still available. However, the rebate does reduce at the turn of each year. STCs are available for all home and business owners up to a system size of 100kW. 

What are the benefits of adding a Solar System? 

There are many benefits to adding a solar system to your home. A standard system with no complications usually has a payback period of 2-5 years depending on circumstances. Therefore, after the 5th year, the system is paid off and all future generation is money made.

How much electricity will my Solar System generate? 

A standard 5kW Solar System will generate approximately 20-25kWh per day on average over a year, with Summer yielding higher, and Winter lower, respectively.

When would you recommend a battery with Solar? 

Batteries are more beneficial when most of the electricity usage in the home or business is outside of sunlight hours. For example, with an empty home or business during the day the excess Solar energy is being fed back into the grid at 1/8th to 1/10th of what you buy the electricity for.

Therefore, storing that solar generation in the battery for the evening provides free electricity even when the sun is down. Some batteries can also provide backup solutions to partially power your home through blackouts.

How do you clean Solar panels? 

Solar panels are glass, like a window when dirty they become hard to see through. When panels are dirty it blocks out the sun, causing losses in the solar system. It is best to clean panels with just water from a tap and a sponge. Scrubbing heavily, using high-pressure cleaners, or adding chemical cleaning products eg. detergent can damage the panel and impact effectiveness.
